The EASA Private Pilot Licence Helicopter PPL (H) permits an individual to fly a helicopter for personal use throughout Europe. This can be for the fun or flying or for a practical travel solution. PPL qualified pilots are able to hire or own helicopters and also continue training to commercial qualifications.

PPL (H) Course

On completion of the course a PPL (H) holder will have:

• Flown a minimum of 45 hours flight training including 10 hours solo flight
• Obtained a Class 1 or Class 2 CAA medical certificate issued by an authorised medical examiner
• Completed a Radiotelephony/ RT Licence
• Passed nine theoretical / ground exams
• Completed a Solo Cross Country flight which involves landing at three different airfields
• Passed the final PPL Skills test

Training

Ground school training can be by self-study or arranged through our own instructor Flight training will be on the Cabri G2 Helicopter and can be conducted from Thruxton Airfield in the UK or Tampa Florida, USA.

Pre-course requirements

PPL (H) applicants must be at least 16 years old to fly solo and at least 17 years old to hold a PPL (H) licence. There is no maximum age for acquiring the PPL (H) licence.

The EASA/CAA Commercial Pilot Licence Helicopter – CPL (H) permits an individual to fly a helicopter for commercial employment. It is a high level of training that prepares pilots for all types of commercial work within the worldwide helicopter industry. This course is particularly focused on developing aircraft captaincy skills.

CPL (H) Course

On completion of the course a CPL (H) holder will have:

• Flown a minimum of 30 hours dual flight training including 10 hours instrument flight
• Passed thirteen theoretical / ground exams
• Passed the final flying skills test

Flight training will be on the Cabri G2 or Bell 206 Helicopter (the Bell works well if you are heading straight on to the IR Course) and can be conducted from Thruxton Airfield in the UK or Tampa, Florida in the USA.  Accommodation can be provided in the UK or USA.

 

IR (H) Course

On completion of the course an IR (H) holder will have:

• Flown a minimum of 50 hours dual flight training instruction (including 35 hours simulator and 15 hours aircraft – the 15 hours can be reduced to 10 hours for most applicants).   QMP pilots have reduced courses.
• Passed theoretical IR exams
• Passed the final flying skills test

Training

Ground school training in our purpose built classrooms in following subjects:

• Air law
• Aircraft general knowledge – instrumentation
• Flight performance and monitoring
• Human performance
• Meteorology
• Radio navigation
• IFR communications

If you have passed the theoretical knowledge examinations for a CPL (H), you will be credited the exams below:

• Human Performance
• Meteorology

Flight training will be on the Bell 206 Long Ranger Helicopter.  This aircraft is certified for IFR flight and has from new Factory fitted Autopilot.  The aircraft is also capable of PBN approaches.  The training can be conducted from Thruxton Airfield in the UK. Simulator training will be conducted at Kemble Airfield UK on an FNPTII.

We offer type rating courses on the following types:

• Cabri G2
• Bell 206 Jet Ranger
• Long Ranger differences

On completion of the type rating course a holder will have:

• Flown a minimum of 5 hours dual flight training instruction (first type rating) or 2 hours (previous type rating)
• Passed theoretical knowledge exam
• Passed the final flying skills test

Training

Ground school training in our purpose built classrooms in following subjects:

• Systems

• Daily Inspections
• Limitations
• Performance
• Emergency procedures

Flight training will be on the Cabri G2 or Bell 206 Helicopter and can be conducted from Thruxton Airfield near Andover or from our Tampa Florida office in the USA.
